WEEKEND OBSERVING OPPORTUNITIES: During the continuing COVID-19 health emergency, the following information on Fridays and Saturdays that may be suitable for observing is provided solely as a courtesy to RVAS members and other readers. The RVAS assumes no responsibility for the health and safety of anyone venturing out to stargaze, and cautions all doing so to observe social distancing and other health and safety precautions.
-- Friday and Saturday, May 15th and 16th. Sunset is at 8:23 p.m. Astronomical twilight ends at 10:07 p.m. The Moon sets at 2:58 and 3:27 p.m., respectively.
-- Friday and Saturday, May 21st and 22nd. Sunset is at 8:29 p.m. Astronomical twilight ends at 10:16 p.m. The Moon sets at 8:33 and 9:33 p.m., respectively.
-- Future Weekend Observing Opportunities: June 12th and 13th: 19th and 20th.
ROANOKE CITY PARKS and RECREATION PUBLIC STARGAZE: The session scheduled for Saturday, May 16th, 9:15 p.m., has been CANCELED due to the continuing COVID-19 conditions and restrictions on public gatherings. A decision is pending on whether the next sessions scheduled for August 15th and November 14th will be held. Further information on these sessions will be provided in future newsletters.
